A Day Spent at Mercado de Motores

Just say flea market, and that’s where you’ll find me. Nashville has a big flea market that Eric and I love visiting so we knew that we would be in for a real treat at Mercado de Motores.

Railway Museum

Mercado de Motores is held each month in the Museo del Ferrocarril de Madrid (Railway Museum of Madrid). Museo del Ferrocarril is the former train station of Delicias. The railway museum makes for a perfect place for Mercado de Motores. While strolling the booths inside you walk past a diverse collection of over more than 150 years of Spanish railway history. With all the trains, the railway museum makes for the perfect place for a family outing.

Mercado de Motores Booths

With the diversity in the booths, you will surely find something to treasure. You can find anything from vintage hats, coats, and clothes to delicious chocolates and antique furniture. I fell in love with these two antique chairs. I came pretty close to convincing Eric that they would look perfect in our little flat and even better in our home in Nashville. He just couldn’t get past the financial commitment to shipping them back to America.

Seriously though, these chairs are stunning. Don’t you agree?

Food Trucks

We decided to meet another couple and their daughter at Mercado de Motores for lunch. We figured it would be a great lunch spot because of the different food trucks. They had a crepe truck, a Mexican food truck, potato truck, a burger truck and many more options. They also had a bar, with local beer, wine, and they had special mojitos. We got some tacos and burritos and sat and watched a band perform. It was a great cultural experience to see locals of Madrid dancing, eating, and gathering with friends and family.

A fun twist to day was the Stanger Things food truck passing out FREE waffles drizzled with chocolate, carmel, and covered with Oreo crumbles. They were delicious.

If you’re ever in Madrid during the second weekend of the month, you need to add visiting Mercado de Motores to your itinerary. It’s a great place to find treasures, spend the day with family, or watch and indulge in the culture in Madrid.
